  I saw Dr. Schuyler on the recommendation of my primary care physician. I have been suffering from sores in my mouth for the past year, due the blood pressure medication I have been on. We tried the whole spectrum of BP medicines and all caused the sores and they were not controlling my blood pressure. My Dr. advised me to see Dr. Schuyler to make sure there was not an underlying issue causing my high BP. I also gained 30 pounds over the last few months while on these various medications, while my diet and lifestyle did not change. When Dr. Schuyler came into the exam room, holding my file, he informed me that my blood pressure was fine and that I just needed to watch my diet and lose 20 pounds. When I tried to explain about the sores and that I had gained 30 lbs over the last five months while on the meds, he interrupted to tell me that BP meds do not cause mouth sores or weight gain. He then went on to tell me that I am obese and that I just need to lose weight to lower my blood pressure. He ended the visit by walking out of the room. This Dr. needs to improve on how he interacts with patients - he needs to listen to people and not have some preconceived notion without getting the facts. I recommend he take some CEU courses and get out of the stone ages. The Japanese have conducted a case study on the side affects of BP medicines. They have found that all BP medicines cause mouth sores. My primary care and his PA informed me of this case study and have reviewed it. Unfortunately, while they have determined that these medicines cause sores, they have not yet found a remedy. Instead of denying the existence of this side affect, Dr. Schuyler could check with the drug manufacturers for the side affects, and at the very least Google it - I did.
